POSEIDON
POSEIDON is a collaborative EU initiative designed to facilitate the transformation of existing urban districts into Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) by integrating energy, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainability. The project focuses specifically on Mediterranean cities, which share not only similar climatic conditions but also common cultural practices and social structures.
Within this framework, I contribute by aiding the designing and implementing Urban Living Labs, as well as developing methodologies, exhibitions, and films that engage communities in co-creating their energy futures. Wonderland’s (hence my) role emphasizes participatory approaches and artistic research to translate technical challenges into accessible, actionable narratives—empowering residents, municipalities, and stakeholders to collaboratively shape resilient and inclusive energy systems. Here are some items I’ve produced for the project, or helped produce.
The story of an energy community.
The Bürger*innenKRAFTwerk energy community is located in Aggsbach by the Danube river, in Lower Austria.
The initiative consists of concerned citizens with a desire to improve sustainable living and awareness in their communities. They are active in a series of regional projects (all initiated through their energy community), including taking part in helping toads safely cross a regional road, organizing tours on the history of the region, and even community cooking events.
The main purpose of their initiative however, is to promote local energy production. With this purpose in mind, a small group of active members came together to build up their own energy community while networking with other communities in the region.
We explore the initiative, their journey and what the future holds for them in this documentary.
"Don't waste your energy" - a video essay
Upon publishing the PED manifesto and as a result of our work with energy communities, I wanted to create a video essay that also acts as a manifesto of sorts. Inspired by GLoria Anzaldua’s Nepantla writing technique, I penned the concept and worked with Moka SheungYan to craft illustrations crafted for the concept.
Urban Living Labs
In order to provide localized content, workshops and exchange opportunities for the partner cities in the project, we’ve been developing customized content and formats for the living labs, to take place in each city. The project will have 11 labs across 10 countries, where citizens co-develop pathways to climate neutrality through interactive sessions, games, and role-plays.
The documentaries and films we created as well as curated, and games developed will be used in these interactive, co-creation opportunities that bring citizens, local authorities and relevant stakeholders together to exchange and develop. For the labs, wecreated an exhibition, with posters that highlight the need for localized sustainable energy production and highlight best case examples, with links to articles, which you can also access here.
